Sherwood District Meals on Wheels services Chelmer, Graceville, Sherwood, Corinda and Oxley and was founded by a small band of volunteers in 1970 and has been operating in the area for 50 years.
Meals were originally supplied from St Matthew’s Hall, Sherwood and from 1992, Montrose Access Corinda. Moving to Oxley Bowls Club in 2014 we continue to provide nutritionally balanced meals to our clients from our supplier Gourmet Meals, these meals are delivered entirely by local volunteers.
We are a community service that operates with assistance from the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on the ongoing generosity and commitment of volunteers to donate their time so that we can provide nutritious meals to our clients for either short or long term periods.
People may be; in their senior years, recovering after hospitalisation, a major illness or surgery, a person with a disability, a carer, or needing assistance due to a special circumstance. Meals on Wheels offer much more than just a meal by providing a daily visit to monitor the health and well being of their clients who may not see anyone else during the day.
Sherwood District Meals on Wheels helps seniors, younger people with a disability and their carers to receive nutritious meals at a small cost. We also provide meals to people who require post-hospital support.
